Blue

This is likely my last post from Brazil. I have sat on this series of photos for some time. Waiting on the right moment for them to see the light. I returned to the place where I took these photos recently. At around mid-day, I was stopped, searched and threatened by the police. They put there hands on my genitals to let me know that, in their words “We run things around here.” Street photographers regardless of their color are at risk of being victims of ignorance or conflict.  But I had committed the extra mistake of forgetting that the world does not see young black men the same way it sees everyone else. How dare I walk around with a camera? Who did I think I was?

I like you Brazil. You’ve shown me beautiful things. But I think it is time for me to go.
